Wall Of Vines II

The Outfit

So, I don't need to give my neuroses any more air time, but I feel like I've led some of you up the sartorial garden path and have not provided adequate resolution so here are some images of the outfit. I probably dress up more to go and have a beer down the road, but it's what I could manage given my personality quirks (...ahem). My photos from the night also turned out pretty crap because my camera is half broken and I need to get a new one, so unfortunately I have to use some filler shots where you can't see my hair and make up from the night.

Let The Right One In

Saw this film on the weekend. I think if Bill Henson ever made a vampire film it would look like this.

This shop always has fantastic window displays. See their flicker set here.

His 'n Hers

I'm totally wedding'd out. I don't feel like posting the hair, the dress or anything just yet. I did have a lovely time though and these are our beautiful rings by Katherine Bowman.

Edit: the rings are made from oxidised white gold. This means that they are quite dark and matt at the moment but they will start to shine over time. The stones are white and champagne diamonds in mine and a black diamond in his and there are little markings around the stones, which I think is so sweet and whimsical. I love that they look like they've been excavated out of the ground and partly polished up. I also think if we were rings, this is what we'd be like.

The Fruits Of Marriage II

Last night the bf's family threw us a traditional Moroccan  Jewish pre-wedding celebration where they put henna on your left hand as a symbol of good luck. I had a friend who often used to spend hours drawing intricate Indian designs in henna on my skin. They were so beautiful and would last for about ten days and it was like wearing elaborate jewelry. So I was quite looking forward to seeing what the Moroccan designs would be like. Would they use a template? Would they make it up? Or did they have an extensive and historical knowledge of beautiful patterns for wedding henna that I didn't know about? The control freak in me was even thinking I could have some input into the design. So after the requisite eating and drinking, dancing and drumming we were to have the henna.

The Moroccan Henna Design

Well, after my initial shock (it does seem that I'm turning into a wedding princess), I suddenly got it. The celebration was about the food and the music and the bonding (everyone got henna) and actually, how boring would it be to sit there for an hour watching the bride getting some elaborate design, when everyone could just get a daub of it and then just get on with the party?

No, the henna design was perfect.

Hunting and Gathering

There is that very wise and famous saying that states that accessories can make or break an outfit. I was very naive standing in the shop with my dress on saying "I'll just put on black stockings and shoes on and I'll be good to go!". And while it would have been nice to get new everything, the very unfortunate fact is that I have spent all the available money and so the twelve headed monster has been raiding my closet to put the finishing touches on my outfit for the BD. So after many more costume changes I've settled on the following.

Vintage faux fur jacket (found at the op shop but vintage sounds much more hygienic), two antique jade necklaces one from each grandmother to be worn as bracelets, vintage clutch (also from an op shop), Marni accessory to be worn as headband, angel sparkle tights (the words on the packet, not mine)

Marostica customised heels (you couldn't poke a stick at all the different ribbons I've had in these)

And the rings! They arrived early. I wasn't going to look at mine until it was put on my finger, but with a week to go, I thought "I'd better just make sure it's ok" and I've been checking it fits at every opportunity (that's not bad luck is it?).

As fate would have it, on my way home I also found some beautiful 1940s jewelry pieces here. Not sure if I should even think about it...

Sample City

Some sampling I've done in the last couple of days

also tidied my fabric box (quite a big job, never much fun)

Have been thinking about where to put my things for sale too. A few other blogs that I like seem to use Big Cartel as opposed to Etsy. I notice that some people also sell things directly off their blogs. There's also the bricks and mortar shops too... so much to sort out.

Testing, Testing

I got my stuff back from the exhibition and so I road tested my skirt. I was really quite happy with it - it was comfortable, didn't ride up and satisfyingly bubbled up in interesting shapes when I sat down. It's a very fine line between unflattering and interesting though. I have to get someone else to try it on for me too. I want to tackle a dress version next. But first I'm trying to get some nice scarf samples ready to sell.

Fashion At Night

Tonight I went to a fashion show with Kate, (my featured friend of the month), who had free passes for her work. I spend so much time on my own working, it was fun to get dressed up a little, put on make up and you know, be around people.

Me, very excited to be going out:

And no point trying to take photos of the clothes with my little toy camera. How about a few atmosphere shots instead...

Lula Magazine

I was going through old magazines last night looking for up-dos and rediscovered two of my favourite spreads.

I'm very virgoesque in my own personal dressing; I like fuss free clothing, but my absolute favourite look is the I fell asleep on the sofa wearing my best clothes look.

These images from Lula would be my perfect way for dressing....
