a bit on process

i've been working on another piece of clothing and i thought i would share a bit of the process to make a sample or prototype. here are the steps that i went through:

1. decide on yarn and type of knit structure. make a tension swatch to determine number of stitches and rows per cm

 2. make small samples of any design details

3. design pattern - a big step! i then try to convert as much of the pattern into squares, rectangles and triangles as possible and then measure it out.

4. then translate that into machine knitting language. i also do all of this by hand. at rmit we used computer programs to do this, which made the process a lot faster. this is also the section that often needs to be reworked over and over again.

5. knit the pieces, then baste together to see how it all looks before committing to joining them permanently.

6. try out different methods of joining

7. also try out any extra design details. i liked this one. i won't show too much because i want to use it later on.

i made raglan sleeves this time.

and very importantly, wear (and that's my very serious looking in the mirror face).
