hobart is such a charming city. there were so many aspects that i loved about it. here are some of the highlights:
mona. i was very impressed with the whole set up of this gallery. we hired bikes and rode for about an hour in the headwind to get there from the hobart waterfront. we took the ferry back to the city at dusk and went past the zinc works, which looked fantastic all lit up.
cafes, restaurants, food - it seemed that hobart takes food pretty seriously. everything we ordered was very, very good. my favourite meals were at pigeonhole (a place recommended to me by maria), followed by the wine bar at mona. i wanted to try this place but unfortunately it was closed.
fresh seafood and locally grown organic produce - the city was abundant with both. there were a few very big fresh and organic produce places right in the middle of the city, again, very impressive. the harbour front is filled with fishing vessels. i loved that they were work boats and not just for decoration.
architecture - i remember this from my last visit, hobart (and tasmania in general) seems to have the most delightfully quaint houses and buildings that look quite different to what we see in melbourne. some of the streets are incredibly steep but this means a lot of people have views of the water. we also accidentally drove through arthur circus while trying to find the main road and i felt like we had driven into a cute toy village! i managed to find my way back there a few days later to walk around a bit more.
