I have been feeling like my posts are a bit lame lately. My aim when I started this blog was to post something at least five times a week; my rationale being that I should be able to find at least that many inspiring or interesting things. I didn't really factor in the time it takes to write about them though. My camera is about to die as well. Although The Rayman calls it a 'piece of s***', my simple little camera has been my trusty little friend over the last few years. So I've been spending all my internet time investigating which new camera to get. Although researching electronic goods is probably on my top 10 least favourite things to do, I have to admit that I'm pretty excited about getting a half decent camera.
So, I've been also cleaning up my old photos and decided to post these. I have refered to this work trip before, but these images are of the weaving process - literally from the beginning to end. It was totally amazing to see firsthand.
The silkworms
sorting the cocoons
degumming and reeling off the silk
spun silk
warping up the loom
threading the heddles
(one of the few textile processes that has almost made me cry with frustration)
a mind blowing printed warp
(for non textile people, think about printing a pattern on hundreds of thin threads and keeping them untangled and in order)

and, the fabric being woven
