goodbye primo

well, as you can tell from the title the story doesn't have a happy ending. when the rayman arrived home yesterday he went out looking for primo and found his body in the neighbor's garden, in a spot that i had neglected to look at properly. we couldn't tell what had happened as there wasn't any sign of injury. we decided to bury him in the front garden, which was his favourite place. he and ezra would hang out there, there was a big tree to scale several times a day, lots wildlife to chase and the main thing, people to meet. we were making a pretty slow attempt to create a place to put him but our neighbor, lars, who was primo's good friend came over to help us. in a strange twist he told us he used to have a job digging graves in germany, so he knew exactly what to do, how deep to make it etc. while the rayman was away, lars, who's a keen gardener had to throw a lot of beautiful plants away because a neighbor in his block complained about them. i really felt for him because they were beautiful plants and he said he'd grown up with a lot of them. i offered to put some in our garden because we have plenty of room, but i think he felt like it might be an imposition on us so he didn't bring any over. but after we buried primo, lars brought over the last pot he had to remove and we put it over the spot.

it felt a bit strange doing all of this with a virtual stranger, but it always struck me that primo had such an open, non judgmental personality. he wanted everyone to feel happy and included and if i can learn anything from a cat, it should be that.

the rayman and i feel pretty gutted. it's been a shock as primo wasn't that old and was in good health. i know so many people can understand the feeling of losing a pet who was your best friend, so thank you so much for taking the time to leave comments and to my friends who have sent me messages and offers of help. and i really don't want this to be too morbid so please have a look at my favourite primo post here and my favourite interview here.
