every time i alight from the train at santa maria novella i breathe a sigh of relief. florence is a city that feels like an old friend and the walk from the station towards the centre with glimpses of the overwhelming duomo and then arriving at the piazza where the beauty of the building is fully revealed will always give me goose bumps, no matter how many times i do it.
i don't even bother putting a list of places to eat in italy because i know if i stick to my rule of thumb - go back at least two streets from where all the tourists are, look for the place with the most locals (or failing that, italian tourists), try to avoid restaurants with english menus and choose the plain over the highly decorated establishments - the most amazing food can be found.
this is the last post on our trip. i don't have many photos from rome here, which is such a grand city, but i have lots on my instagram.
